(Free Croatian Bibles)
Croatian is a Slavonic language written in Latin (Roman) script. It is spoken mainly in Croatia and Bosnia. It is very similar to Serbian, and both languages are sometimes called Serbo-Croat. The Scriptures (Biblija) were first translated into the Croat language in 1636, which was not published until 1999.
The New Testament (Novi Zavjet) was first translated into modern Serbo-Croat in Cyrillic, by Karadzic in 1847 and the Old Testament by Danicic was added in 1868, and republished in 1994. Another translation of the Bible (Sveto Pismo) was made Dr Ivan Saric in 1942, which includes the deuterocanonical books of the Catholic tradition. Most Croatian speaking Christians are Catholic, with Orthodox and evangelical Protestant minorities. Croatia was part of Yugoslavia from 1918 to 1991.
Bible work is done by the Croatian Bible Society. Bibles are printed in Protestant and Catholic editions.
