Ten miles southeast of Monticello, the county seat of Lawrence County Mississippi, not near anywhere then, nor now, runs a little creek called White Sand Creek. The creek begins near nowhere just south of Bournham Rd., runs for about 3 miles to the southwest, then mysteriously goes nowhere - disappearing as it flows into the Pearl River.

An historic road crosses the creek called River Road, looking much the same today as it did in 1861 when William Bass left this little corner of paradise for the war. The Bass home no longer exists, but several others built about the same time survive.
